The warmest months in Ushuaia are October through April, averaging 46 F (7.7 C). These months don’t usually see much snowfall, making it a good time to visit if you’re interested in hiking, trekking, mountain-biking, fishing, or boating on the Beagle Channel. May through September are the coldest months, with temperatures averaging around 36 F (2.2 C), though it’s still possible to enjoy skiing, canoeing, and fishing. Come Autumn, the forests near Ushuaia turn brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow.
Due to Ushuaia’s location near the Southern Pole, in the summer month of January, there is often sunlight for seventeen to eighteen hours and the city fills up with tourists, though in the coldest winter month of July, there is typically daylight for just seven or eight hours.
Besides year-round outdoor activities, Ushuaia is also home to a significant list of cultural events, holidays, and fiestas. In April and May, the annual Festival de Ushaia offers two weeks of daily classical music concerts by international philharmonic orchestras, quartets, and chamber groups and operas performing in the Las Hayas Resort Hotel.
In June, the National Celebration of the Longest Night welcomes the beginning of the winter season in Ushuaia with a grand city-wide celebration, including ski tours, the Marcha de Antorchas (Torch Parade), and a closing party in Town Hall featuring live music and a fireworks show.
Other local events include the International Mountain Film Festival, the Ushuaia Sled Dog Race, the Snow Sculptors National Meeting, the End of the World Rally, and the “Ushuaia a Fuego Lento,” a gastronomic festival held in August.
