Bolivia Hotels

In Bolivia, budget travelers are the favored guest: you'll usually be able to find a comfortable room, many times with a private bathroom, for around $10 per night. Whether you are on a tight budget or looking to splurge, Bolivia has a wide range of accommodation options that will suit your needs. In Bolivia, you can find minimalist campsites, budget hostels, chain hotels, and even luxury resorts.

Rooms throughout Bolivia can be found at extremely reasonable prices. A bunk in a dorm-style hostel can be found for as little as $4 per night, while the going rate for a night in a luxury hotel in La Paz is around $120 a night. In smaller towns, you probably won't have as much choice for accommodations beyond threadbare budget hostels.

When booking your trip, keep in mind the peak travel season in Bolivia is mid-June through early September. During this time demand for rooms is high and prices go up, so you'd be wise to make reservations in advance. In addition, room rates are known to double or even triple during popular holidays and fiestas, so check the calendar before you make your trip. Negotiating a discount on the advertised rate is a viable option during other times of the year.

Bolivia Budget Hotels and Bolivia Hostels

There are dozens of hostels and hotels in La Paz and Santa Cruz, and a variety of options in tourist areas throughout the country. Most Bolivia hostels supply beds in dorm rooms for $7 or less a night, but if you prefer your own shower and privacy you'll have to add on a few more dollars. Bolivia hostels are usually within walking distance of local attractions and transit, and some even organize their own tours and excursions. Standard amenities usually include hot water and at least one shared computer with Internet access, but some hostels go above and beyond to supply breakfast, televisions or Wi-Fi.

As far as Bolivia budget hotels are concerned, it's always a good idea to ask to see your room before making a commitment. Although rooms usually come standard with a shower, don't be surprised if the water temperature is erratic. Bolivia budget hotels are also not always experts in the way of ambiance (and sometimes comfort), so don't be surprised to find threadbare accommodations. A no-frills room will set you back as little as $50 a night, whereas a stay at a familiar chain (think the Radisson or Plaza) will cost between $90 and $120 per night, but some complain that the star rating doesn't compare with U.S. counterparts.

Bolivia Luxury Hotels and Bolivia Resorts

Bolivia may not have as many luxury hotels and resorts as nearby Chile and Peru, but the country makes up for the lack of numbers in terms of value. Although you'll be hard pressed to find a luxury hotel offering posh décor and spa treatments, those looking for charming, cliff-side eco-resorts will be pleased to know they can be found throughout Bolivia.

Bolivia resorts are rated on a 5-star scale, but the numbers don't always translate to other international standards. You may be surprised to find dated furniture and cracking paint in your suite, but most Bolivia resorts have unmatched service and tasty, international restaurants.

Bolivia Camping and Other Bolivia Accommodation Options

Bolivia camping has some of the best scenery in the world, with campsites set in valleys at the base of the Andes and in the salt flats. You can camp just about anywhere for free, but it's a good idea to check with local police, park rangers, or the nearest landowner. Unfortunately, there are few designated campsites throughout the country, making it hard to plan a trip. Most travelers choose to skip Bolivia camping altogether, and instead explore the wilderness by day and return to budget hostels by night. If you do choose to set up camp, remember that Bolivia's highlands experience cold nights and the lowlands have swarms of mosquitoes. Some national parks have shelters where you can stay for a small fee, which range from basic huts to comfortable cabins with beds and bathrooms.

Away from cities in popular resort towns, you will find cabañas, or cabins. Other accommodation options in Bolivia include hostales, alojamientos, or residenciales – three different names that typically mean you'll find basic rooms with a shared bathroom. The rooms tend to vary widely in cleanliness and comfort, so be sure to ask to check out your quarters before paying.
