Aside from the airports and pretty posh hotels, there aren’t many places in Bolivia that accept credit cards. Cash is always the better bet, though you can try your luck with plastic in some of the larger cities. Also It’s worthing bringing along in case of an emergency, as you can opt for a cash advance from the banks and credit unions if you are really in a bind. Visa and Mastercard are most widely accepted, but be sure to check your specific banks policy on international fees, and to notify them the card will be used, by you, outside of the country, in order to avoid unnecessary fraud claims and card suspensions.
