The Bolivian train system is quite a treat. It’s a clean and smooth shot down western Bolivia, a fast and efficient service worth taking advantage of. The route runs from Oruro in the north to Villazón in the south, which borders Argentina, with stops along the way in Uyuni, Atocha and Tupiza. There are two trains that run the tracks, Expreso del Sur and Wara Wara del Sur. The latter is a backpacker favorite, as it’s a bit cheaper (although a bit slower). Expreso del Sur runs south Tuesday and Fridays, and north Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wara Wara heads south on Sundays and Wednesdays, and does the reverse Mondays and Thursdays. Prices range from $4.50 - 34 (31Bs. - 236 Bs.), depending on class and distance. See the full schedule for exact times and prices.
