While traveling in Bolivia, traveler’s checks can be a lifesaver. It’s highly recommended to come with prepared, as banks, credit cards, ATMs (basically all things cash...) are often hard to come by. It not unlikely to arrive in Copacabana, Sorata, or similar, with too little cash and the realization that it’s a bit more expensive than La Paz and with far fewer financial services. Rather than wiring money from the Produbanco, a traveler’s check cashed at your hotel can get you out of a tight spot without all the attached fees. This is not to stay that traveler’s check are accepted everywhere, but you are likely to find that they are good backup plan nonetheless. So, before you take of on your trip, consider stopping by your bank to stock up.
