This trek follows the rim of the Cordillera de los Frailes. The trail starts just west of the Chataquila chapel and continues for about seven kilometers before reaching the rock paintings of Incamachay and Pumamachay. The paintings and engravings are thought to date back between 1,500 and 2,500 years, to the Sauces and Huruquilla cultures. From here you can continue down along the river to the village of Chaunaca. Some tour agencies will finish the trek at the tiny community of Tumpeca and pick you up from there. This hike can be done as a day trip from Sucre.
