Getting to and away (regional transportation)

Most buses arrive at the Terminal de Buses on Avenida Universitario. Those from Uyuni usually drop visitors at the bus company offices in town.
Buses to and from Sucre take three to four hours ($3), and several depart throughout the day. A faster and slightly more expensive option is to take a taxi collectivo from the terminal, which takes two hours. The taxi collectivos leave when the car is full ($5 per person).
Oruro is 321 kilometrs away. There are regular, daily buses with connections to Potosí. There are some buses to Oruro that leave early morning and lunchtime, plus most companies have evening departures. Collectivos going to and from Oruro cost $17 per person.
Tupiza is a seven to eight hour bus ride away ($4). Buses depart early in the morning, and the evening departures are at 7:30 p.m. Buses arriving from Tupiza often arrive early in the morning, so make sure wherever you stay has a 24-hour reception.
It takes five to six hours to go from Potosí to Uyuni. There are a few morning departures, as well as one at 6:30 p.m. Recommended companies for this route are 11 de Julio and Emperador.
Buses to La Paz leave the terminal between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. everyday and take approximately 11 hours ($7). Trans Copacabana and El Dorado are two of the most popular bus companies.
Keep in mind that services can be interrupted from December to March due to bad conditions on the roads caused by severe rain.
No airlines currently fly to Potosí.
