The construction of the convent of Santa Ana de Recoleta began in 1600. It was built as a resting place for the Franciscan monks and was extended several times before it was abandoned in 1826. When the monks returned, a careful restoration project began, returning the building to its former glory.
The museum displays a number of 17th and 18th century religious artifacts. The church contains all its original features including a mock-marble roof with gold painted archways, pillars, chandeliers and artwork. The choir stand at the back is made from carved cedar wood - a thousand year old cedar wood tree can be found at the back of the convent. There are some great views of the town and a couple of beautiful courtyards to wander around.
