Nuestra Señora de la Merced has an impressive Baroque style interior, including a beautiful carved cedar wood alter covered in gold leaf, and smaller alters along the sides. There’s also some artwork by Melchor Perez de Holguín, widely recognized as Bolivia’s most important Baroque artist. It was built in the 16th century and has a domed ceiling and battlements in the roof. You can climb up the tower for a spectacular view of Sucre’s tiled roofs and white-washed walls.
