A great little private museum found in the residential zone of Miraflores, El Museo de Textiles Andinos Bolivianos exhibits weavings and textiles from across the Andean region. There are eight well designed rooms with clear displays exhibiting the different style of tejidos found across the country, including work from the Kallawayas and Jalq’a cultural groups and from the textile rich region of north PotosÃ. There’s an introductory room highlighting the ceremonial practices involved in the artwork, followed by an explanation of the weaving process, the materials used and a 3-D map showing where the different weavings are made. Well worth the trip.
There’s also a small shop selling weavings and other textiles where 90% of the sale price goes direct to the producer. You can get a minibus marked Av. Busch from the centre, asked to be dropped off at la esquina con Guatemala.
