La Paz’s main tourist street, Calle Sagárnaga, climbs steeply up from the Prado and Calle San Francisco. This street and its surrounds, are full of shops and stalls selling artesanía and tourist knick-knacks. There are lots of hotels and restaurants catering for foreign travels here, as well as other attractions like the Mercado de Hechicería (Witches’ Market). Rosario is a mainly commercial area, which is a popular place to stay in among the buzz of the market filled streets.
San Pedro is a commercial and residential area within easy walking distance of the centre. It has an attractive plaza at its centre, where the infamous San Pedro prison is found.
