Sopocachi is a rather bohemian neighborhood. Both modern and late 1800's architecture bond together in this residential area of the city. A 25 minute walk will take you to this place going down thru El Prado. This is considering that most tourists stay at the Sagarnaga Road (end of El Prado). If having any trouble, you can find some police officers who wear a vest with the words “Tourist Police” on them. Usually they speak some English and will be glad to give you directions.
At day time, the place is home to some corporate headquarters, banks, offices, embassies, fancy stores and restaurants offering a variety of national and international food. By night, the place turns into the neighborhood with more concentration of pubs, lounges and discos you’ll find anywhere at the city. This characteristic makes it the place to be if you want to fully enjoy La Paz’s nightlife. The offer goes from very alternative lounges to pubs and discos specializing in electronic, rock, hip-hop, salsa, cumbia and reggaeton music. Most of these places have a cover for entrance and foreigners won’t have any trouble getting into these places, no matter how they are dressed.
