For cultural entertainment, try one of La Paz’s peñas. These offer a show of folkloric dancing, live music and dinner, starting in the early evening and sometimes continuing on to well past midnight. Food is optional if you want to see the show but eat elsewhere. Some of the best include:
La Casa del Corregidor (Calle Murillo 2-236-3633, cover $10 including food) has regular performances in a authentic colonial house, with a good-value dinner and show price.
Peña Huari (Calle Sagárnaga 339, Tel: 2-231-6225, $15 cover with free drink) is probably the most well known peña in La Paz, and offers a good show but pricey food.
Marko Tambo (Calle Jaén 710, Tel: 2-228-0041/3889, cover $4.50) offers an authentic show in a colonial mansion with ok food. The entertainment starts late at 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday. There’s also a good set menu lunch here, Monday to Saturday.
