Between the tiny towns of San Pedro and San Pablo runs the Tiquina Straight, a narrow waterway that connects the main body of Lake Titicaca with the smaller, outer lake of Huyñaymarka. If you are traveling between the Lake and La Paz, or elsewhere in Bolivia, you will have to pass across on a small ferry ($0.50, 10 min.); your vehicle will follow on a larger raft. Though your bags will be safe enough floating across on the bus/van/car, its best to keep your valuables on you. Another quick tip: have your passport handy, as San Pedro is home to a naval base, and officials do random checks of foreign identification. If you’re craving a quick snack between bus and boat, there are some small restaurants and food stalls presents, just don’t miss your ride.
