Huarina is a tiny but agreeable little town, located halfway between La Paz and Copacabana (a little over an hour and a half to each). While it has a couple of very basic alojamientos, there’s really no reason to stay the night here. The reason you would end up in Huarina is to catch a bus or camioneta to Copacabana from Sorata--or of course, the other way around. As it is on the junction of the major north/south and east/west roads servicing these areas, and there are not direct buses (all pass through La Paz, an extra two hours each way), it’s best to get off at the main intersection in Huarina and walk 500 meters or so to the center of town, to flag down a ride. As Huarina is smack dab in the Altiplano, its windy and temperatures drop at night, so hope to do you transferring during the day.
