With a bit of effort, the quirky Hostal La Cúpula can be an interesting and pleasant place to stay in Copacabana. The hostal sits on a hilltop overlooking the town of Copacabana and Lake Titicaca. In the distance, guests have an excellent view the Cordillera Real of the Andes. The Cúpula architecture is eccentrically arabesque with rooms of every dimension and geometric shape Getting your luggage up the hill is a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, a taxi driver can be convinced for a few pesos to serve as porter. An alternative is to rent a three-wheeled flatbed cycle from the main plaza. Be attentive about room selection. Size, shape, vistas, and price are unique to each accommodation. The hotel staff will give you tarifario or list of room prices. Rooms range from the spectacular to somewhat odd. Be polite but assertive in selecting a room that matches your gusto. Private baths are clean and served by solar powered water heaters. Breakfast is not included in the room price. The hostal’s attractive international restaurant serves delicious continental and national dishes. An American breakfast costs about $2.50 and a full lunch or dinner entrée will run approximately $5.00. The Cúpula is surrounded by well kept grounds, including gardens and several multi-level patios.
