Most activities in Lake Titicaca center around one basic concept — seeing the lake. Most activities in Lake Titicaca center around one basic concept — seeing the lake. Travel by boat is the most common way to get around, and boat tours around the lake and to Isla del Sol are readily available. Prices for boat tours vary depending on the tour length, type of accommodations and boat quality. For example, guided tours can cost between $125 and $300 per person per day with accommodations. But the budget-minded traveler can rent a lancha to (slowly) take around the lake for about $12 a day.
Anyone can find their own perfect way to see Lake Titicaca and its surroundings. Apart from the standard boat tours, visitors can hike to ancient Inca ruins, haggle at weekend crafts markets in Copacabana, visit man-made reed islands, watch the sun set behind the Cordillera Real or sea kayak (no, Lake Titicaca isn’t technically a sea, but as the largest lake in South America by volume, it may as well be). A trip to the Incan cradle of civilization is unforgettable, and Bolivia’s side of the impressive lake has plenty to offer.

Museo del Poncho

Although it's located on an unassuming side street, the Museo del Poncho calls out with its multicolored MAS flags, both on the building front and in the main square (a couple blocks up, it has directional arrows to follow). This museum is a new addition to Copacabana, providing an extensive...

Copacabana Cathedral

One of the truly unique churches in Bolivia, the sprawling Copacabana Cathedral is definitely worth a visit. With large round domes, commanding pillars, and mudéjar (Moorish) style design, it is unlikely you will find anything like this in the rest of Bolivia. From the outside the cathedral is a...

Mercado Modelo

Just next to the 2 de Febrero Plaza, the Mercado Modelo is a great place to stock up on fruits, veggies and pig parts (think heads and hooves), if you plan on cooking for yourself. Vegetarians beware, the entrance also serves as the meat stalls. Venture in a bit further, however, and you’ll find...

Cerro Calavario

Hostal Wilka Wata is a popular choice for one very important reason: it is the first place offering accommodation that travelers come across on the long uphill walk from the dock. The rooms, which all face the lake, are undoubtedly simple, but the owners have made the effort to add a bit of warmth...

Copacabana Beach

It's not as captivating as the beach of the same name in Brazil, but the Copacabana Beach is about as close as you will get to surf, sand and sun in landlocked Bolivia. Though the high altitude and grainy sand make for unappealing sunbathing, it’s a nice place to spend an afternoon. There are...
