Puerto Acosta

The small border town of Puerto Acosta got its start as a shipping port between Peru and Bolivia from 1870 to 1932. Today it is relatively well known for its beautiful views of the lake and its música huayacheña, a type of music characterized by emotional sentimentality.

Most visitors merely pass through Puerto Acosta on their way to or from Peru, as there really isn't much tourist infrastructure here. That said, travelers with time to spare can visit the thermal baths of Puntunkullo (30 minutes away) or the nearby archaeological ruins of Kakaya.

Other places nearby Puerto Acosta: Desaguadero, Puerto Perez, Huatajata, Estrecho de Tiquina, Huarina, Achacachi and Escoma.
