When To Go - Tourist Information. Lake Titicaca - Bolivia

December and January are traditionally the wet winter months, but February throughout November make up for it with sufficient sun.

Aside from Carnaval in Oruro, most Bolivian holidays are celebrated biggest around the lake. The islands themselves stay fairly quiet, though Copcabana is known to get busy. Although the fiestas are fun, remember, prices will inflate around these times, as well as crowds and crime.

January 24—Locals observe the Alasitas festival by receiving blessings on miniature objects (cars, houses, animals) which represent their true prayers for the upcoming year.

February 2 - 5—Possibly the largest of the festivals, Fiesta de la Virgen de Candelaria brings eating, drinking, music and dance in honor of Bolivia’s patron saint. There’s often a makeshift “running with the bulls” on the third day.

March/April—The Catholic celebration of Holy Week fills Copacabana with pilgrims from Peru and Bolivia. Some of the devout walk all the way from La Paz, others stick to climbing Cerro Calvario, by way of the Stations of the Cross.

May—Fiesta del La Cruz August—The Bolivian Independence Day is hands down Copacabana’s hottest holiday. Celebration lasts for a week, as crowds come from all over to sing, dance and celebrate.
