Swimming - Other Activity San Ignacio De Velasco - Bolivia

There are a few places in San Ignacio where you can take a refreshing dip. The Laguna El Guapomó is a man-made lake that borders the north and eastern sides of the town. It’s surrounded by greenery and has nice views over the surrounding countryside. There’s a sandy area to the north of the city centre where you can soak up a few rays on the water’s edge. The lake gets pretty popular with locals at the weekend. In the rainy season there are sometimes piranhas, so be sure to ask around to see if it’s safe to swim.

Also on the north side of town, next to the lake, is the Balneario El Paraíso, a good size, clean outdoor swimming pool. It’s open on weekends and costs $2 to enter, half that for children. There’s also a kiddies swimming pool with a slide. There’s no proper changing area, just some pretty dingy toilets. You can find it at the north end of Avenida Obispo Rosenhammer.

The public can also use the swimming pool and facilities at the Hotel Caparú . The pool is encircled by palm trees and there are plenty of sun loungers where you can relax with a book. There is also a sauna and gym. It costs just over $4 to use the facilities. Just out of town there’s Las Piedritas (Cel: 7601-6343, in Santa Cruz) where you can swim and rent cabins.
