Santa Cruz Things to See and Do

follow us

If you can drag yourself away from the sun-drenched plazas for a while, there are a number of museums and galleries in Santa Cruz that are worth a look. Two lesser known museums include the Museo Guaraní and the Museo Etno-Folklórico, which both document indigenous groups from the lowlands. A trip up the Cathedral bell tower gives you great views of the city. If you’re in town for a couple of days and want to experience la naturaleza, there are a number of excellent nature parks outside the city, or you could try a country restaurant. The sand dunes at Loma de Arena, eight kilometers from the city, make an interesting day-trip; while the village of Cotoca, just 20 minutes taxi ride from the center, has botanical gardens, a well-known Catholic church and is famous for making honey.

Further afield, Samaipata, La Ruta de Che, Parque Amboró and the Jesuit Missions are all within less than a day’s travel.
