A favorite among locals, this park surrounding a lagoon is a perfect place for lounging or taking a stroll. On an island in the middle of the lagoon there is a mural by Santa Cruz-born artist Carlo Lorgio Vaca, famous for his bas-relief murals and paintings that can be found throughout Bolivia. You can hire paddleboats and there are vendors selling ice-cream and snacks. The park underwent a complete renovation in late 2009, updating the entire area.
Parque El Arenal is also home to the Museo Etno-Folklórico de Santa Cruz, with artifacts from some of the many ethnic groups that inhabit the eastern part of Bolivia.
