Originally founded in 1605, Santa Cruz’s cathedral was not completed until the mid-19th century. Today it overlooks Plaza 24 de Septiembre and serves as this city’s most iconic sight. Inside there is are impressive examples of silver and woodwork. You can climb the belltower ($0.50 US, 8:30 a.m. – noon, 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday) for a decent view of the surrounding area or check out the Museo de Arte Sagrado, which houses a collection of religious artifacts dating back to Jesuit missions in the area as well as a prayer book containing the Lord’s Prayer in several languages, which is deemed the world's smallest book.
