Just two hours away from La Paz via the new highway (which is notably less scary than the old one, which had the charming nickname “the road of death”), Coroico is located in the Yungas ecological reason, which is between the cool, dry climate of La Paz and the steamy rainforest. The result is a quite pleasant place to visit for a few days, to relax and visit waterfalls, go horseback riding, take a rafting trip or take part in some of the other local activities.
Although most travelers consider Coroico to be a stop-off between La Paz and the jungle, it is a destination in its own right, with many adventurous travelers choosing to bike down the old road (which is currently closed to everything except bicycle traffic). It also boasts an interesting market, and you can visit the coca fields (they’re legal, don’t worry) if you wish.
