Getting To and Away From Guanay

There are two bus companies, sat on opposite corners of the plaza. TransBoliviano and Trans 10 de Mayo run south to La Paz and Sucre. No buses service the north, just the once-a-day boat and commissioned jeeps, vagonetas, and taxis.

The boat is clearly the most adventurous option; it leaves at 7 a.m. and costs $8.50 / 60 Bs., stopping along the way to let off locals. There is only one all day, so if you plan to get to Mapiri, stay on! The return boat from Mapiri to Guanay leaves at 9 a.m. (3 hours, $8.50 / 60 Bs.)
