It is likely you will have arrived to Mapiri either via boat or the 6-day Mapiri Trail Trek, both adventurous and attractive ways to enter the town. While it’s a pleasant little pueblo, equipped with hospital, tour agency and extremely friendly folk, you’ve probably already enjoyed the best parts of the area en route. If you’re here, however, grab lunch at Restaurante Paseña, which serves a set almuerzo for $1.50 (10 Bs.). The staff is helpful and there are clean bathrooms in the back. These bathrooms (and showers) are attached to the recommended residencia, Alojamiento Humeres. Bedroooms are a good size, clean and equipped with mosquito nets--just $2 (15 Bs.). For entertainment in Mapiri, stop by the Internet café, with a handful of computers ($1 / 6 Bs. per hour) or take a dip in the river, supposedly clean enough for a swim.
