While Santa Rosa is not exactly a tourist town, there’s a chance you’ll find yourself there in betweeen Sorata and Mapiri, because of the Mapiri Trail Trek or just inconsistent bus schedules. If you do wind up there, try and make it short, as there’s not much more than a plaza with futbol field and church, a hotel (with pool!) and a long, wild west-esque strip of tiendas and local saloons. Transport in and out of Santa Rosa is limited, as the roads are rough and heavily affected by rain. Taxis can be commissioned for a hefty price, your best bet is to catch the daily vagoneta that leaves for Sorata from the main plaza at 5 a.m. ($13 (90 Bs.) / 8 hours). The road is rough, not recommended unless you must head west. The better options is to take a taxi back to Mapiri (1 hour, $3 / 20 Bs.) and then either boat or bus out from there.
