Buses leave from Tarija bus station for Bermejo every few hours throughout the day (four hours, $3) and vice versa. A quicker alternative is to get one of the ‘expreso’ collective taxis that leave from the bus station 24 hours a day – you just have to wait for the taxi to fill up and your off (three hours, $5/$6)
Crossing the border
If you’re heading to Argentina, you can cross the border on foot and pick up onward transport in Agua Blancas. Alternatively, there are trufis waiting just across the bridge (the border is the Rio Bermejo) heading for Oran, the nearest large town in Argentina. The Argentine immigration office is about a kilometer along the road from the border – make sure you stop here to get an entry stamp. You can pick up a Bolivian exit stamp from the immigration office at the border.
We warned, if you choose to do as the locals do and hop on one of the boats that cross the river border, you’ll need to pick up an exit stamp at the immigration office in Bermejo first. Once in Aguas Blancas in Argentina, you’ll need to pick up an entry stamp from the main road – it’s probably easier to go over the bridge.
