While many extranjeros pass through Oruro, the city does not have many hotels that cater specifically to tourists. A large number of hotels and alojamientos of varying quality are clustered around both the bus and train stations and provide adequate places to stay for those arriving late or leaving early—mainly the train-riding crowd. If you intend on staying in Oruro for more than a night, head into the city center, a nicer area where better lodging can be found. Carnaval, Oruro’s epic claim to fame, makes that one weekend in February or March (depending on when the festival falls) a hotel owner’s dream. If you’re planning to visit for the fiesta, you will probably have to reserve a couple weeks in advance, and make the booking for the full three days of Carnaval.
