Oruro’s winter months of May - July can be bitterly cold, with temperatures dropping well below freezing at night. It’s advisable, therefore, to visit just after the winter has ended, when the winds have died down and the days are dry (or drier) and sunny.
If you’re not planning your trip around the weather, however, the February or March weekend on which Carnival falls is, hands down, the busiest and best time to visit. Known all over the country as the place to be, Oruro sees crowds and prices escalate, which means the celebration is best suited for travelers with lots of energy and relatively deep pockets.
