Oruro Services - Tourist Information. Oruro - Bolivia

Internet

A city seemingly run by pre-teens, Oruro doesn't lack Internet options or Juegos en Red (computer games, most often violent, though extremely popular with young locals). For those looking to communicate or just kill some time on the Web, connection is nothing spectacular but it gets the job done. Almost all internet cafés charge $0.45 / 3 Bs. per hour, and can be found around the city squares and side-streets connecting them.

Zion Internet: JunĂn and 6 de Octubre

Money

There are numerous banks and ATMs throughout the city, and it's helpful to know that many of the large towns south of Oruro also have ATMs (excluding Tupiza), so there's no desperate need to stock up on cash. Try the ATMs at Mercantil Santa Cruz, connected to the Entel building in the center of Plaza Castro. There is a also a Banco de Crédito (BCP) on the northwest coner of Plaza 10 de Febrero and Banco Bisa on the same sqaure, Bolívar just east of Calle Presidente Montes.

Tourism Information

For a city that doesn't see much tourism outside of Carnaval weekend, Oruro offers a surprisingly good amount of tourist resources, boasting a couple of helpful info locales and two tourist police offices. The main tourism information office is located on the second floor of the bus station. Here, and at the other locations, you can obtain a simple but helpful map of the city. The administration office for tourism is located on Plaza Principal (10 de Febrero), on the corner of Calle BolĂvar and Presidente Montes, just east of Hotel Eden. This office is more for tourism planning, but will offer help and answer questions if you swing by during business hours (Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Tel: 04-525-0744). There is another tourism office directly across from the entrance of the train station. The kind, old man here will help you find bus times, distances and things to see and do around Oruro. He will provide a city map as well.

The tourism police office is a small building adjacent the bus station. Some of the officers speak English, and all are extremely helpful. If anything unfortunate should happen while traveling to or within Oruro, stop by the office and make a claim. The station is open 24 hours.
