This basic but adequate budget hotel is situated practically opposite Uyuni’s train station, making it a convenient option for anyone arriving late at night on one of the Ferrocarril Occidental trains. Friendly yet proficient hotel manager Maria (who also runs Expediciones Empexa next door) often comes to meet travellers off the train in order to offer them lodging and tour options. Even travellers who are sick of (and cynical about) ‘touts’ would do well to hear Maria out – especially if they have limited time and want to find a room and fix up a tour to the Salar de Uyuni all at once (Expediciones Empexa offers both 1 and 3 day tours of the Salar).

Accommodation prices at Hotel Avenida range from 30 bolivianos (4 US $ approx.) per person per night for rooms with shared bathrooms, to 50 bolivianos (7 US $ approx.) per person per night for rooms with private bathrooms (the price is per person as opposed to per room and payable in cash only). Beds are spacious, comfortable and covered with thick blankets to keep guests warm at night when Uyuni can feel surprisingly chilly. The rooms and communal bathrooms are kept clean and tidy, as is the hotel in general, and hot showers can be had, but only at certain times of day (this is the case in most of the hotels and hostels in Uyuni, except for a few more upmarket options).

Breakfast is not available in Hotel Avenida, nor is it included in the price of a room. However, there are plenty of cafes nearby on the pedestrianized Avenida Acre where reasonably priced breakfasts and simple meals can be purchased. Internet access can also be obtained in a few places around here, as it is not available at the hotel either.

Located across from the train station, Hotel Avenida is a clean, popular place, often full, with hot showers available only during the morning hours.
