This 19th Century church looks over the city like a watch-tower, perched up on a hill at the top of Calle General Bernardo Trigo – and with good reason, it was used as a look-out point when it was first built. It has a very prominent place in Tarijan culture, being named after the patron saint of the city. Every August and September the church becomes the centre of celebrations for the festival of San Roque and is adorned with colorful decorations. If you want to go inside, it’s usually only open during evening mass.
