There is no formal tourism office in Tupiza. Most tour operators have information about the town and provide maps. Or, obtain maps from the Instituto Geográfico Militar inside the Municipalidad on the main plaza.
Bring enough cast with you. There are no ATMs in Tupiza. If you need a cash advance, the banks provide them for a hefty fee. Tupiza tours also offers cash advances and Hotel Mitru changes travelers checks for a commission fee of six percent.
The main post office is just off the plaza, on Calle Sucre near the police station. The staff are helpful, though the service is generally very slow.
Call centers and internet cafés are readily available in Tupiza. The connections are slow and should cost less than $.50 per hour.
For emergencies, Hospital Eduardo Eguía is on Avenida Chicas 119, between Calle Avaroa and Florida. Pharmacies are plentiful and the pharmacists are generally amiable and helpful. Over-the-counter medicines are easily obtainable.
