From the many bars and restaurants that Lapa has to offer, Carioca da Gema is the authentic heart and soul of Cariocas (people from Rio de Janeiro). Located in the bohemian neighborhood of Lapa, it’s one of the best places to listen to authentic samba while grabbing a bite. From the moment you enter you can see people dancing in every corner. As the place fills up and the dancing spots reduce the vibe only improves. For the dance-shy out there, you don’t have to know Portuguese to feel the rhythm of the live music and the tapping of samba steps running through your body. This establishment's greatest virtue is the fact that the locals who frequent this place turn it into an incredible cultural experience for anyone who is not from Brazil. There is typically a cover of R$12 (about US$5) at the door. The place is open Monday - Saturday and hosts a different band every night. People usually start arriving at 9 p.m., and by 11 p.m. you can expect it to be to its full capacity (especially during weekends).

An Awesome Club

Its music and atmosphere are great and the food is excelent! It has a Pizzaria upstairs and a restaurant inside. Its located near other big attractions, but you would never know Carioca de Gema was there during the day...its like its camoflaged. At night this street completely transforms and its awesome. Carioca de Gema is very safe and the staff and bouncers are wonderful, and I definitely recommend it to both couples and singles...if your looking for great nightlife Carioca de Gema is the place to be!!
