Chillán is home to a series of important and impressive sights which should not be missed. The Catedral de Chillán has nine giant arches and is located alongside a 36-meter cross built to memorialize the citizens killed in the 1939 earthquake. In the wake of the devastation caused by that event, Chillán received the beautiful Escuela México as a gift from the Mexican government complete with murals from two of Mexico’s most prestigious artists. The Museo San Francisco houses artifacts from Franciscan missionaries who tried to convert local Mapuche. And the Feria de Chillán is one of the best open-air markets in the region.
