Contulmo
Nestled by the beautiful Lake Lanalhue, this village of 2,500 souls is a slice of rural Chile. German immigrants settled in the town in 1884 and founded the first German school in Chile here in 1893. The old wooden houses from a bygone era make the town a nice place to relax, and you can practice water sports on the lake. Contulmo is also one of only two places in Chile where the albino strawberry is grown, so if visiting in the summer, do taste the white berries.
