One of Nobel prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda’s favorite pastimes was to come into the city while away at his home in Isla Negra to pick through the antiques at the weekend markets scattered around Valparaíso. On Saturdays, Plaza O’Higgins has perhaps the most popular antique market in town, where you can find everything from chandeliers and phonographs to retro pin-ups and manual camera parts that aren’t excessively cheap but are mostly high quality. There are packs of old men playing chess and Briscas at the tables around the plaza, and there are places to sit and take coffee or have a snack.
