This small museum, located inside the imposing Palacio Lyon, is the second oldest in Chile, first established in 1878 by Don Eduardo de la Barra. Inside you’ll find a comprehensive—though somewhat disparate—history of the earth and its inhabitants, with the story of Pangea and tectonic plate activity next to a room full of meticulously categorized shells. The museum is great for kids with its dynamic, colorful, and clearly explained displays, though older visitors may feel a bit like they’ve returned to middle school science class. All displays are in Spanish.
