Museo Palacio Rioja is a French neoclassical mansion that was once home to rich Spanish banker Fernando Rioja. The ornate house was built between 1906 and 1910. It features Corinthian style columns, a grand double staircase and stone carvings. The original gardens spread over four blocks.
The building was declared a national monument in 1985. Today, Museo Palacio Rioja houses an environmental museum, meeting rooms and a cinema. Most people come here to get a glimpse into the grandeur of the original house and how the rich residents of Viña del Mar lived in the early 1900s. According to local hearsay, there is even a resident ghost wandering about the place.
