Getting To and Away

Bahía Murta is 203 kilometers (126 mi) south of Coyhaique. From Cruce Murta, the signed turn-off on the Carretera Austral, it is four kilometers (2.4 mi) to the village. Gasoline may be purchased at the Gato Negro general store. The next gas station south is at Puerto Río Tranquilo; north, in Coyhaique. There are two auto and tire repair shops.

During the low season, bus service is less frequent. Rains or snows can temporary close the road at any time of the year. All buses leave from along 5 de Abril. Departure times are approximate.

To Coyhaique: Wednesday 2 p.m., Sunday 1:30 p.m., $12.

To Cochrane: from Cruce Murta on the Carretera Austral.

To Puerto Sánchez: Tuesday, Friday 8-8:30 p.m., returns same night, $4.
