Many travelers who come to Cochrane take a day off to visit Reserva Nacional Tamango. No to far from the city, though, await other wilderness adventures. At Laguna Esmeralda is swimming, kayaking and fishing (7 km / 4.2 mi southeast). Other places to drop a line for trout and salmon are the Cochrane and Baker Rivers and Cochrane Lake. To the south are waterfalls Salto Valle Castillo (12 km / 7.2 mi) and Los Mellizos (10 km / 6 mi). From San Lorenzo are views of Laguna Esmeralda, Valle del RÃo Salto and Campo de Hielo Norte’s snowed peaks (30 km / 18 mi southwest). A new nature reserve, Valle Chacabuco, is to the north on the Paso Roballos road.
