Coyhaique’s Biblioteca Regional is a beautiful new building with all the usual services of a library: books and free internet use (20 minutes). But the one in Coyhaique have some special features. One is the Rincón de Andinismo Gino Buscaini. This multi-lingual collection specializes in books on climbing and hiking in the Patagonia, and includes technical manuals, expedition guides, nature handbooks and topic-specific magazines. The library is a half-block from the Plaza de Armas.

Visit the Museo Regional or take a walk around town to one of the several viewpoints (miradores) and monuments. Hike, trek, birdwatch or mountain climb in Reserva Nacional Coyhaique, Reserva Nacional Río Simpson or Monumento Natural Dos Lagunas. In winter, go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, or get in a day of skiing at Centro de Ski el Fraile. Raft or kayak the Simpson and Paloma Rivers or go fishing.
