
Specialties on Coyhaique menus include trout and salmon from the local rivers, and the traditional parrilladas, or grilled meats. Ayseninos take great pride in the products of their land, and many restaurants use regional fruits, meats and other local products. In general, food is a bit more expensive than in the more northern parts of Chile, but you can still find some cheap eats here. If traveling on a budget, look for hostels with common kitchens. Supermarkets open at 9 a.m. and close late. The largest are Full Fresh (Cochrane 646) and Hyper Más (Lautaro 331). Frutos Cordillera stocks a large variety of soy meat, nuts and dried fruits (Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 3:30-8:30 p.m. Prat 412).
