There is a large variety of Chilean maps ranging from area specific maps focusing on Patagonia to maps encompassing every route through Chile. These types of maps are readily accessible and can be purchased before leaving on your trip at most major book retailers as well as online stores such as Amazon.com. One you have landed in Chile, the National Tourist Service (SERNATUR) gives out free maps and tourist information. Every region has SERNATUR offices, generally located in the center of the city. A SERNATUR counter is located in the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago. (Tel: 601-9320, Open Monday to Sunday from 8:15 a.m. to 8 p.m.) Another SERNATUR office in Santiago can be found in the Manuel Montt metro station located on Calle Providencia 1550. (Tel: 731-8336 / 8337, Open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Its recommended that maps for hiking and other outdoor activities be bought prior to entering Chile as the maps from SERNATUR are not always comprehensive.
