You can exchange traveler’s checks in the bigger cities and towns at any casa de cambio (exchange house). It’s worth shopping around to get the best exchange rate. Outside of Santiago, it’s a good idea to carry traveler’s checks in U.S. dollars as you can sometimes get better exchange rates and some vendors don’t want to buy other currencies. Casas de cambio are open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
