Cycling is an excellent way to discover the island. Bikes can be rented at numerous outlets along Av. Atamu Tekena. Make Make (Av. Atamu Tekena, www.makemakerapanui.com, open 9am – 1pm and 4 pm – 8 pm) has the best selection and offers half and full day rentals (US$8/10). They also provide maps showing major roads and tracks. All roads are biker friendly, but be on your guard for potholes and wandering animals. Popular routes go between Hanga Roa and: Anakena (2-3 hours), Tangarika (3 hours) and Rano Kau (2 hours uphill).
