Hiking around Rapa Nui - Hiking - Chile

Rapa Nui offers a number of interesting day hikes. There are three main routes out of Hanga Roa, all easy to find, taking you to different parts of the island. To hike independently, pick up a trail map from Sernatur (Av. Policarpo Toro, Open 8:30 am – 6 pm. Closed weekends), the island's main tourist office. Scenic routes include the coast to Anakena (5 hours) and the climb to Mauna Terevaka (3 hours). If you'd rather join a tour, Toki Tour (Av. Pont, Tel: 56-32-2551026, www.tokitour.cl) offers full and half day excursions (US$60-100). Whichever option you choose, wear good walking boots, sunscreen and carry a flashlight for exploring caves.
