If you are staying for several days the best way to get around the island is walking. It costs nothing and you take in the land a lot more than if driving. Just head off in a different direction from Hanga Roa each day. For those with limited time, the most efficient way to reach the sites is by 4x4. ATVs, motorbikes and bicycles can also be hired for a day. Do be careful though, since the roads are unevenly surfaced and horses and cattle tend to wander across without warning. It is possible to go pony trekking, too.
