A host of operators—many based in Hanga Roa on Easter Island itself—offer tours to explore the remote island on foot, horseback or from the comfort of a four-wheel-drive.
While there are simple day outings, longer five- or seven-day packages include visits to the most spectacular archaeological sites, like the Orongo ceremonial village ruins, Lines of Moai (the enigmatic statues), as well as volcano trekking and scuba diving. Prices depend on the level of luxury of course, but tend to be in the high range, especially since they do not usually include the airfare, which costs around $800 from Santiago. If booked locally, a simple four-day tour with transportation, meals, accommodation, bilingual guide and entrance to the national park starts at $285 per person; a seven-day tour should be in the $800-$900 range.
Tour operators based on the mainland also offer trips, but these tend to be a lot more expensive unless you are a large group. If you prefer to organize your own trip, these outfitters can arrange car rentals, transfers and hotel reservations.
